    Campsites in HIgh/Low Spur

Looking for campsite suggestions in the High Spur area of the Roost. A tree or too is useful. Where do most people tend to camp when doing High Spur, Water or Tidwell? We're leaving out this evening. (Thurs.)

We usually camp at the Motel 6 (Granary Springs) if planning on actual camping. If you want to Camp near High Spur the drill hole on the Deadman's Trail is reasonable. I've camped there a couple of times, and by camp I mean drove in late and tossed out our sleeping bags and was gone at first light. The Roost doesn't offer much in the way of primo campsites, or maybe I've just never looked very hard to find one.

Something else that is good to know is there is no camping inside the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. High Spur is just outside the GCNRA, but Red Spur is inside the GCNRA so plan accordingly.

In answer to our own question, we were out there this last weekend and located 2 other campsites besides the drill hole on the Deadman road. The first is maybe 50 - 100 yards before the drill hole at these coordinates: 38° 25' 20.90" N 110° 10' 05.83 W. There's room there for a couple of tents or vehicles, a large rock formation that shelters some from north winds and a somewhat shady juniper.
The second campsite is maybe .3 - .5 tenths of a mile beyond the drill hole site at these coordinates: 38° 25' 06.74" N 110° 10' 36.93" W. It's a large flat area that could accommodate several vehicles, had two fire rings, a large pinyon tree and a smaller pinyon and some smaller junipers for a little wind block & shade. It would be breezier than the first location but better than the drill hole which has nothing at all to break the wind.

There's also some camping spots near the Hans Flat station. The first is a minor road that turns to the north a little before arriving at the station. There's a couple of somewhat protected campsites up that road. Coordinates of one site a short distance up that road are: 38° 15' 27.91"N 110° 11' 27.51"W. The second spot is off to the right (south) of the main road and again, just shortly before reaching the station. Coordinates are: 38° 15' 20.51"N 110° 11' 20.13"W. This spot sits on the canyon rim. There's room for several campers/vehicles/tents.
