Hikers find dead body in Emigration Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY — Unified police are investigating the death of a man after his body was discovered by two hikers in Emigration Canyon.


The hikers came across the decomposing body Wednesday night about a mile and half up the canyon, police said.


Officers did find an ID but have not yet been able to determine if it belongs to him due to the decomposition of the body. The man may have been homeless, police say, because he was discovered in a makeshift campsite.


Search and rescue teams recovered his body off the mountain overnight, and it was taken to the medical examiner.
