Has anybody seen the Kokanee Salmon run? I'm going to take the family up to Causey Reservoir hopefully tonight to see them.

We've got kayaks but figured it would be easier and faster to take the 2 mile hike around the lake up to the inlet.

If you've seen them, where did you go?

    EDIT:

Here are some shots I took tonight that I'm fairly happy with.

Once when i was a kid in the 70s. Don't remember exactly where we went. I was fishing with my Dad.

I think they can be seen at Strawberry Reservoir as well.

We'll be hiking the Skull Crack Canyon trail up at Causey tonight. I'm hoping to get some cool footage with the GoPro in the water.

Great shot! I've had a cabin up near Causey for the past 5 years. I head over to the water at least once a month. In the dozens and dozens of times to the lake I've never seen anyone catch a single fish... ot from the bank, not from a float tube, not from a boat, canoe, kayak, or row boat, not ice fishing, fly fishing, or dragging a lure... not a single dam fish have I ever seen puled from Causey. Your pic restores hope!

thanks. So a little about the hike; It is an easy 2.3 mile hike from the Skull Crack Canyon parking lot on the south west side of the reservoir.

There are a few unofficial forks going off of the trail, but just stay on the high side. You may get to the point where you think you're just getting up too high on the mountain, because after all, you've got to come back down to the inlet. Not to worry, it winds it's way back down to the inlet where the Kokanee are. I think there is still another good week to head up and see this event, I would recommend it to anybody to take their kids up.

Just a note, fishing for these salmon is prohibited during this time.

It's not always the best fishing up there, but this spring between my wife, my son, and myself we caught 40-something fish in 3 trips. The next trip after those was 2 weeks later and we didn't even get a bite...

I remember ice fishing up here as a kid and getting absolutely nothing.

It's that time of year again! Who is going to see the Kokanee Salmon run at Causey? I'm thinking I'll be going within a week.

We took the kids up to Causey Reservoir today to see this year's Kokanee Salmon run, and we were not disappointed.

When we first arrived and looked at the river right near the inlet to Causey, I could only see 2 fish in that first 200 yards. I was bummed as I thought we had arrived too early this year, but as I hiked up the stream and passed that first little camp spot at the corner, there they were. I estimate within that 100 yards, I could see a couple hundred bright red Kokanee Salmon.

I don't think they have peaked yet, and I would assume they will be running for another week and a half.

Here is the hiking route map, or you can also take your Stand Up Paddleboard, Kayak or Canoe which are popular choices. The hiking route is here:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kk...ag&usp=sharing

The trail is just over 2 miles one way. It's a moderate climb up and down, an altitude difference of @ 350 feet.

Here are some shots, and I'll be posting my video within the next day or two.

Fox 13 just notified they'll be showing my video at about 5:40 - 5:45 today. It's a Live show though, so it can vary.
