Where to go (suggestion needed)
Hi,*I need some ideas on where to visit (day hike or overnight) this weekend.
I enjoy reading the post in this forum and many post are focusing more on technical route but currently I am a beginner in rappelling *and sport climbing. And what I am looking for is more non-technical hiking or backpacking or scramble, but certainly no harness/rope.*
I arrive Vegas this Friday 7am, and need back to Vegas for a party next Monday 8pm.*
I've been to these places around following areas (using LAS or PHX as base)
1. death valley 3 times(driving tour of most part of park, including titus canyon, never been to racetrak yet. July and Dec)
2. valley of fire once (Mouse's Tank and Petroglyph Canyon, didn't see Firewave, Dec)
3. zion 3 times(Narrows, landings angels, Observation Point, Sept, Dec)
4. byce canyon twice (Navajo Trail, sept)
5. grand canyon 4 times(R2R via south kaibab and north kaibab; and south kaibb to Bright Angles; *toroweap; grandview trail)
6. sedona three times (driving tour, no hiking, July, Dec).
7. Wave at Coyote Buttes once (Dec).
8. Navajo NM once (Betatakin day hike)
9.*buckskin gulch (Sept overnight)
10.*coyote gulch (April overnight)
the places I am considering are as follows (most interested one on the top). I will check the weather 1 days prior to the trip then decide where to go.
Mount Whitney
con: possible thunderstorm Friday; not sure if I can get the walking permit in 11am/2pm lottery
Keet Seel @ Navajo NM
Havasupai
con: no camping space available until Nov.*

Mount Charleston is close to Las Vegas, but will be crowded on a weekend.
If you can't get a permit for Whitney, there are many other peaks and hikes in the area that could be done instead.Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.
