    Salamander aka Bullock Canyon

Any comments on Salamander - Bullock Canyon? Is it worthwhile? What are the aesthetics? I've dropped through Birch and Englestead - so I'm thinking this might be an interesting variation.

While the approach as written up in Bluugnome doesn't look too bad, seems it could be a long, dry, bushwhack.

Any thoughts regarding the approach or the slots themselves is appreciated.

The reason the canyon is not more popular is it's a lot of work for what you get and the logistics kind of suck. The bushwhacking was extremely brutal before the massive 2007 Dakota Hill Fire. Since than the bushwhacking has been downgraded to simply brutal. The key to success is to be hiking at the crack of dawn.

I believe Toyota has done this route...(Maybe?). Maybe he can chime in.

We didn't do it, but the approach is the same as checkerboard. It isn't all that bad, but we have been in the area quite a bit and know the area. It is on my to do list again very soon this year. Hit me up when you want to go and we will head out there. Now would be a perfect time to go

Thanks all for the replies - yeah, I'm looking at the last week in July. It's on my Zion hit list, but instead of dragging a few innocent folks through a slog, I'll just look for a different canyon.

It really isn't that bad of an approach. Most people just whine if the hike is any farther than Pine Creek

Well Pine Creek does have better narrows and longer narrows and the approach is manageable.... so yeah.
