Rock of Ages 9 April 2014

9 April 2014, Natalie and I loaded up our gear, paid the trail head fee ($5?) and headed out to Rock of Ages. We brought the 200ft rope and pull cord for the optional Pool Arch rappel and plenty of other hardware. Total trip time was approx. 3.5 hours truck to truck, 1.5 hours truck to Pool Arch.

It’s been almost a year since going through this canyon and would love to go again this year. RoA is loaded with grand scenery which we thought was very beautiful. I stumbled a few times because I found myself staring up at the huge sandstone cliffs while walking in the wash. From the approach until the final rap, the canyon had a different feel than most canyons that I’ve done so far. It is hard to explain what makes this canyon feel more unique but I recommend it. People seeking slot like narrows should look elsewhere. Also, for the adventurous type I suggest planning something in addition to this canyon for a complete day of activity.
