Inconceivable!
Inconceivable - A Princess Bride Canyon in the Cottonwood Mountains of Death Valley, CA
It is inconceivable that a canyon that drops more than 1000 feet in a short 1350 feet horizontal could still be considered a canyon and not a large dry fall. From two miles out on the flat floor of the Death Valley playa looking westward Inconceivable resembles a light grey smear down the Cottonwood Mountain side.
Inconceivability turns to plausibility once entering the canyon with its nice narrows, fun down climbs and of course - big and nicely spaced rappels.
There is plenty of inconceivableness in the 285 foot two stage pot hole at the bottom rappel.
Tough rope pull on the big one - The pull cord and rope like to twist at the top. It took several attempts to position the pull cord just right. - Inconceivable!!
And speaking of inconceivability the last 190 foot rappel is anchored off of a small arch – a really small arch! We added a backup to that rappel. And to add to the inconceivableness of this spectacular rappel the wall on the way down is littered with crumbling and rotting rock. In spite of deliberate nimbleness we all sent large chunks to the canyon floor.
Great appreciation for my two sons Justin and Lorin who provided the horse power to help haul up 700 feet of rope and 320 feet of pull cord
Special thanks to Scott Swaney for discovering and sharing this canyon
Thanks to Luke at BluuGnome for providing excellent beta on the canyon
