That's the main problem with my Taurus 41 mag. Because it's such a lighweight gun, It's ported making in very loud. but probably not near as loud as your 454.
I also have a Browning HiPower in 9mm. Easier to shoot, not as loud, but it's not very concealable.

The type and caliber of a handgun is really subjective. I have multiple handguns, and each has a specific purpose.
For the vehicle, I keep a Walther 9mm with Ranger hollow point ammo in 155gr.
For personal carry, I will alternate between an XDm (3") in .40 and a S&W Bodyguard in .380
For my wilderness adventures, generally my XDm in .45 is used as size is less an issue.
