    Kolob Creek September 6, 2014

Wonderful to finally go through Kolob Creek! Worth all the preparation and effort - true splendor in that canyon. No flow, but beautiful nonetheless.

Took our group of three 10.5 hours car to car via MIA. We never hurried, but constant pace outside of some small breaks and a 1 hour lunch just before the Boundary confluence. We wore 5/3 wetsuits with 5 mm socks and felt great. Water was cold, but not really cold. Started at 8 am and got to 1st rap for suit up about 8:40. Started technical section about 9 am rapping into pocket garden. 11:30 finished last big rappel. Left suits on through 2 final raps out Kolob creek (jumped those).

MIA was not "bad" consistent with other commentary this year - the trail not too difficult to follow - took about 1 hr 15 min to road. Took a left this time (last time did Boundary went right) and 5 minutes later enjoyed pipe spring, a welcome respite flowing cool, clear and refreshing. Slog up logging roads back to car in just under 2 hours always seems to go on longer than remembered. Back to the car by 6:30 pm.

Nothing too remarkable - other than being in such a remarkable place. We had a rope sink to bottom of one of the deeper pools (rap 6 or 7?) and our 6'5" friend fished it out.

Unforgettable place. Hope to return again with some reasonable flow and expect that to add time/complication to the outing. Thanks to the contributors on the board for previous beta.

Nice video! Looks like a great a time!

I'm glad you caught video of the rope retrieval at the end. Been there done that. :/

    Thanks for sharing!
