Rescue from Heaps: October 8, 2012
On October 6, 2012, Sam and Laura set out to do Heaps Canyon[COLOR=#000000][FONT=Arial] in Zion National Park. They picked up their Heaps permit at the ZNP Backcountry Desk around 9 am, telling the ranger that they expected to complete the canyon in one day. They also said they were prepared to spend the night if necessary. Sam

How does one underestimate Heaps if you've actually done some research on it? I've never seen a beta writer yet that didn't give several explicit warnings about how hard it can be. Nowhere have I seen a description that gives the impression of "a big Pine Creek".

Thanks Hank
Any clue on why the pair choose the Gunsight Entrance? That route is rarely traveled compared to the Phantom Valley Entrance so anchors are often an issue.
One problem with Heaps and Imlay is there exists no logical stepping stone from the other Zion routes. They are a big step up any way you slice it.

Good questions, Tommy and Shane. I am hoping those will be addressed eventually; for now, they remain intriguing gaps in the story. Stay tuned?
