Hiking and Backpacking at Carlsbad Caverns
Has anyone been out to Carlsbad Caverns NP and done any extended backpacking? I'm planning on a trip there in late July/early August and thought I'd see if anyone has any tips etc. If so, please post up. Cheers!

Yes, there are places to backpack in and around Carlsbad National Park (though nearby Guadalupe National Park is better for backpacking), but I wouldn't even think about or suggest doing it in late July/early August. Water is very scarce (or non-existent) and the temperatures are very high in summer.
If you want to backpack in that region that time of year, head a bit north and to the area around Sierra Blanca.Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.
