Thread: Possible closure Eaton Canyon, San Gabriel Mountains, southern California

Eaton looks super fun; I hope it remains open. If anyone wants to tackle it before the (possible) closure, let me know. We're only an hour or so away from it. We're not noobs, but I would prefer to do this one with someone who's been there.

    Eaton Canyon Closure Update:
Following up on the July 7th meeting, Sonny Lawrence spoke with the Angeles National Forest this morning. They are in general agreement with our ideas for a permit system and are investigating how the system might be implemented. As far as the closure, it is still set for August 1st and any permit system will not be in place by that date. At this time we do not have a target date for the permit system, but will post this information as soon as it becomes available. We are requesting that the closure be observed until a system to allow canyoneers to play through is in place.

The clean-up event slated for August 23rd will be conducted under a special use permit, allowing us to enter the closed area to do graffiti and trash removal. If you'd like to help with this event, please email eaton.cac.cleanup@gmail.com with your name and contact information.

This type of crap is why Eaton Canyon is getting closed.

OK, this is nuts. The nanny state has to protect these poor souls. Youch. Now that is extreme, extremely stupid.
