    Dantes/Hogs

Spent 5 days down in Dantes & Hogs. 1st time thru Inferno & Hard Day Harvey. Loved both, Lower end of HDH had lots of water, some blown out anchors, made for long hard day. Almost reminiscent of our mudfest thru Not Mindbender year earlier, not quite as bad.
And we camped at Starr Campground instead of the 25-40mph windy flats of Ticaboo. Luxury of shade, wind protection, and unlimited water (had to clean all our gear after HDH) more than makes up for little extra drive time.

Thanks for the tip on Starr Springs. I always think that those things are worth the extra drive too. Me needs my beauty sleep and waking up numerous times due to the wind or heat is no way to start a long canyon, as I've learned that from experience...

Haven't done Hard Day Harvey yet. Looks fun. I'm sure the extra water there spiced things up a bit.

    Thanks for sharing!

I normally would not do the extra distance, but previous not so pleasant time camping at Ticaboo Mesa made me look for alternatives. We were really surprised at how nice it was. The website says BYO water, but we counted 5 water spouts. All sites had table and rings, pit toilets were clean. And best of all the scrub Oak is tall enough for shade, and dense enough that the wind blows over and not through you. I fell asleep at nite listening to the wind gusting over our heads - sweet!
And nobody goes there - oops, now the secret is out.
Looking over to Mt Ellsworth from Starr Camp. Lots of trees!
