Egypt 3 Escalante, Utah 2012
On March 30 2012, Natalie and I took a stroll through Egypt 3 in Escalante, Utah. Egypt 3 took us approximately 8 hours to complete car to car. Time includes a 40 minute lunch at the junction of 25 Mile Wash and time spent building and rapping an optional rap into the final riparian zone. We brought a 110ft rope, 50ft webbing, hardware, and a 200ft pull cord, all of which wasn't necessary for the route we took.
Minus a few potholes we found this canyon almost completely dry but we skipped the very end arch rappel which did have very nasty smelling water and would have been a wader at least. I looked over the small edge from the lip of the optional rap down into the large pothole and the smell was pungent. We decided to hike around the nasty water and narrow section. Also, since we brought all the gear, we set up a stunt rap¯ from a small tree down into the Cottonwood area below, collected the anchor material when we hiked out. This canyon has a wonderful slog back to the rim with full sun exposure, it's great (sarcasm). Side note: I'm a muscular 205lb 6'2"¯, with skipping the last narrow section I had no problem getting through the rest of this canyon, YMMV.

From the bottom, we hiked up canyon to take a look. The water was disgusting and I'm not sure I would fit in there anyway...

You would have fit in that last section. I fit and I am the same height but a little more "well-nourished" than you. Great TR. Thanks for the memories.

Awesome report @WorkBad!
Seems like everyone has heard about the arch rappel, but nobody has done it. All for the same stinkin' reason.THE MOST TALKED ABOUT CANYONEERING TRIP OF 2017 - WEST CANYON VIA HELICOPTER.

Thanks Bob. Actually if I remember correct we did this canyon within a couple of days of you. I believe I saw your fresh footprints in the exit area. At the very least I used your TR as promoting to give it a go. Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh come on! Dirty, stinkin' water is part of the experience. The reason I know I fit in that last section is that I took a group of 16-18 year old boys through there...IN the nasty water. Made 'em men! (Made me want to hurl)
