    North Fork of Robbers Roost

So finally its spring break and I have a week off of school. That only means one thing. Yep you got it. Canyoneering. So the family and I head out to the Robbers Roost area where my dad and I hope to show my mom and sister what canyoneering is about. We wake up early and head out to the North Fork of Robbers Roost Canyon, a canyon that my dad and I have already went through but this time will exist via the escape route before the last rappel to save time and effort.

So the first drop had some webbing wrapped around a large chunk of rock. We got down to the slightly exposed ledge where the anchor was and rappelled.

    A small down climb.

The first actual rappel in North Fork, or for us was the second rappel, is off a large boulder wedged into the slot. There was a dead man anchor buried next to the drop and covered by more rocks. We couldn't see where the webbing went and so most of us got belayed as we rappelled to see how the anchor would react. It held very nicely.

Me getting down the 3rd rap in North Fork. It is either a small two stage rappel or you can slide the last section.

We continued down canyon. Encountered a dead cow and found some pools of water. My dad and I belayed my sister and mom as they down climbed and we stemmed over the pools ourselves.

The escape route. We decided to exit the canyon here as we thought it wouldn't be smart to take less experienced canyoneers and climbers through the crack exit.

Overall it was a great day. North Fork of Robbers Roost is an OK canyon but definitely not the best.

PS. we only had 3 helmets and 4 people, and so my dad gave his helmet to my sister. Bring helmets!
