Drier Das Boot?
Does anyone have an opinion on if Das Boot will be drier than usual because of the drier winter?

Drier Das Boot?
Hopefully not. More fun with more water. Even if so, one good rain can fill any canyon up

It shouldn't be. The ground has a way of regulating the water table and spring flow. I'd imagine it would take several consecutively dry years before the water table actually dropped that low. The higher springs will no doubt dry up faster this year but das boot's water source is near the bottom of the Navajo. It takes a while for the water to work its way down that far.

I wondered about whether the water table/springs played a part in Das Boot's water. I've never been in there so I was not sure if the water there was collection based or fairly constant (I can't think of a better way to say that.)
I mostly wonder because I'd be tempted to combine Das Boot with Subway permits I have in May but the cold water makes me wary. Yes I could bolster my suit but... I guess I'm stubborn on that issue at the moment.

The ONLY way to do the Subway is from Das Boot, imo.
And the water is always cold, ie wetsuits required.I'm not Spartacus

X2
Even in "low" condition, it will still hold a lot of cold water

Yes--3/2 should be plenty, it's all I usually use.
Had a gal go with me a few years ago in a shorty, she was uncomfortable.I'm not Spartacus

As you stated, make sure you combine your permits, having just a Das boot permit, technically does not allow you down the subway.
But, I'm thinking you know that.I'm not Spartacus

I wouldnt do Das Boot with a 3/2 on a dare, and I run warm. The rest in my group run very cold.
We all wore 7mm with thick booties and were glad we did.
7mm is luxuriuos overkill however. 5/4 would be ideal imo.

Julie and I wore a 5mm in das boot and we were running pretty hot.

Having done the boot about 8-10 times over the years I've always worn a 3/2. Even done it a few times in the summer without a wetsuit (but in those cases we typically drop into Das Boot at the halfway point off the ledge.) Did the boot once with only a 3mm vest and a hood. Wasn't too bad but I always run way hot.

What do people prefer das boot or Russell gulch for subway entry

Russel is cool but in no way compares to the green walls, tight corridors, swims around corners, creating an anchor in the watercourse at the last drop--Das Boot by a mile for me.
Both should be done at some time but if you are to choose only one, there is no comparison.I'm not Spartacus
