Boulder Mountain Lakes - Late April

    Hi all,

Boyfriend and I are heading out to southern Utah April 24th for a hiking/camping trip and we thought we'd throw in a bit of fishing. I've been studying topo maps for the areas we'll be traveling through and have a few spots picked out (some I've run across during past trips). We were hoping to fish some of the Boulder Mountain lakes - is the ice typically off the mountain lakes at that time of the spring?

    Thanks!

Boulder Mountain Lakes - Late April

Depends on the year. The ice can be up there well into May or even June or gone by the first of April. It also depends on the individual lake as well. Unfortunately, I'm afraid you'll have to see how the winter goes and try to get the most recent info before your trip. Sorry :/

    I agree with Bootboy.

There should be a few lakes with open water, but they'll be a bit lower on the hill.

Sorry for taking so long to post, I fell victim to the disease that is winter steelheading. Thanks for the advice on Boulder lakes. I kinda figured based on the past few years it'd be hit and miss. We'll just play it by ear and be happy if we happen on some fishable water. Hopefully we can hit some of the small trout streams in southern Utah even if we aren't able to fish the mountain lakes. I've been busy tying trying to fill the fly boxes for the trip! Thanks again for the info!

Just keep it in the lower 9000ft reaches or below and you should be fine, I would think.

There's also the Fremont. That river pumps out some serious pork.

I'm guessing it may be open this year? With a warm feb and march screaming in who knows?

Two wheels are better than four, keep the rubber side down.
