Actually the betting line really has nothing to do with home or away... it is based totally on dollars bet. The reason the line moves is the sports books want an even number of dollars bet on both sides. The book will move the line as required to make sure that happens. The book makes their money by taking a percentage of the winnings.

Utah beats USC and goes from 19 to 18 in the polls.
Baylor is ranked #12, is 6-1, but look who they've beaten:
SMU
Northwestern State
Iowa State
Buffalo
And $hitty Texas
gimme a break
and Kansas State is ranked #11, and look who they've beaten:
Iowa State
UTEP
SF Austin
Texas Tech
and $hitty Texas
.....can you say OVERRATED?!It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

The line has to initially be set. Generally the home team is going to get a few points related to their being home, not having to travel. That figures into the assessment into where the line is going to initiate. After the initial line is set, it will move related to where the money is going. So in a nutshell, the line does have something to do with being home/traveling.

I would make the case that Notre Dame is wayyyy overrated. Ranked #6 and the only teams they've played are:
Rice
Purdue
Michigan
Syracuse
North Carolina
They beat Stanford in a very close game, and lost by 4 points in a very close game to #2 Florida State.
...but ND deserves a #6 ranking? Pleeeeaaaase!
Gotta be some $$$ goin' under the table there somewhere. Please prove me wrong. It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Everyone knows the polls are really a beauty pageant. Utah's problem is they were supposed to be the ugly step sister this year and not Cinderella. And it doesn't help that Utah let the ugly prince Wazoo bend her over and bang the hell out of her.

LOL. Where you may have been correct most nights, I can guarantee that at that instant you are false on three key pieces of evidence:
1. @double moo wasn't gawking in that direction with me (he normally has a pretty good eye for the leaders of cheer just as much as I).
2. A good friend and co-worker was at that game (seated in section 23 (the endzone)), and I was staring over there all night trying to locate him. (Never did).
and
3. If I was scoutin' the ladeez, my tongue would've been out. It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

Utah senior wide receiver Dres Anderson out rest of season
SALT LAKE CITY – University officials announced Utah senior wide receiver Dres Anderson will be out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury.
Anderson is Utah’s leading receiver with 355 yards and four touchdowns and is second on the team in receptions with 22.
He will finish his Utah career with 2,077 yards which puts him at fifth in school history.
The Utes (No. 18) will take on the No. 15 Arizona State Sun Devils Saturday in Arizona at 9 p.m. MT.

OUCH. Not an opportune time to lose him.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

10-29-2014, 10:14 AM #180Anderson likely sustained the injury during Utah's 24-21 win over the University of Southern California Saturday, but details about when the injury took place were not immediately made known by the university.
Although the injury is a major blow to the university moving forward, the team has more depth in that position than it has since joining the Pac-12. Freshman Kenric Young is listed as the backup receiver behind Anderson. But receivers Delshawn McClellon and Tim Patrick will likely get some playing time as well.
