I'm still keeping my eye on this issue. I was poised to buy one last Christmas and then Amazon had a ton of bad reviews so I held off and was never sure they had it corrected. So then their CEO comes out and says that they released the Hero3 too early and it was a mistake. So they get the 3+ to fix that and now it "appears" to have significant focus issues. I don't want to drop $400 on something that should work great but doesn't. So, once again I sit here; poised to make the purchase but wanting to wait until they have the bugs worked out and I'm just not sure they are getting there. Several youtube videos are available that show a mod one can do, breaking the adhesive on the lens mount and turning it.....to fix the focus issue and they seem at least happier when they have done so, but that is the last thing I want to plan on doing with a new, $400 camera. I bought a competitor a couple of years ago and was not happy so a GoPro is what I want or at least has been. Sheeesh!

I don't have any problems at all with my 3 besides battery life.

At first it was an issue when you power the camera on, and it gets stuck and you couldn't record. You'd have to pull the battery out of the back, reinsert, and try your luck again. This meant stop what you're doing so you could reset this stupid camera that's supposed to be quick and on the go. But the recent firmware update fixed this.

Then there are the MicroSD card problems with the 3 but I've never experienced this. I wonder if the 3+ has solved this.

So I'm wondering what problems the CEO said the 3+ fixes.

If you can find a 3 Black Edition for around $300 (originally $399) then I'd say go for it, you won't have any regrets.

Thanks Sombeech. I went ahead and got the 3 today on your recommendation. I just needed a push one way or the other I guess. I'll let you know how it goes. Reading some more it seems that doing the firmware update can be just a bit tricky and perhaps some folks believe they have updated but didn't really. That may be some of the complaints. I found some directions on how to manually do so and come Christmas morning I'll see if I can do that first thing and am hoping it will be smooth sailing from there.

Updating the firmware is simply putting the file on your sd card and doing a power cycle or something on the camera, pretty easy.

If i remember right, there's a confirmation displayed on the screen.
