Guilt is a great motivator.
Here's what we can expect from here:
In 2020 we'll get an explanation for polygamy, in 2045 an apology for the victims of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and when hell freezes over a formal apology for the discrimination and persecution of homosexuals.

Historically, church leaders never really gave a comprehensive explanation as to why black men could not receive the Priesthood.
Some folks can't forgive whether the situation was fixed or not. The act of revoking or changing a policy nearly 40 years ago is simply not enough to escape the current racist title. Definition of Stubbornness?
Then again the timing of this repeated statement could be in relation to Nelson Mandela's death, which sparked statuses and tweets from a bunch of privileged white kids who didn't know a damned thing about him but want to jump on the "compassion bandwagon".

I love how the LDS Church has stood up and has been clarifying some of the more difficult "doctrines". Articles like this are wonderful!

um, exactly how are they discriminating the women? I bet if you ask the actual women of the church the majority of them will tell you that they don't feel discriminated against. Go ahead. go poll the 15 million members of the church and see how many feel like they are being discriminated against ;)

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the LDS Church are in fact racist chauvinistic bigots, and then there's a great awakening where they change the rules. We currently see evidence that this would not be satisfactory. Aside from making these changes liberating Women, Gays, and Goblin Valley Park Rangers, the public would say it's all for naught because there wasn't a good explanation of why the discrimination in the first place.
The change is not good enough. You have to provide a satisfying story of why the original policy existed. In fact it's got to be such a compelling story, it would make you wonder why they caved into social pressure to change it.
Or, the critics could appreciate that their requests were carried out and live out their days in happiness. But until then, there is absolutely ZERO reason to make changes based upon public opinion.

I'm not a critic I just like to see kuya and sombeech squirm. I appreciate the points you make sombeech, and I believe you're spot on. I like to challenge others on their beliefs when I can. It's interesting how folks justify what they do and how they think.

I read a book years ago called Black and Mormon which gave a lot of detail adn it's share or assumptions on the whole Black and the Priesthood issue. Unfortunately it was policy and not doctrine that became protected for years even after one of the Prophets said it was time to change (David O McKay). Years later Spence pushed the issue and it was a magical revelation to some. The sotires about fence sitters, seed of Cain, and various other bullshit were just stories, never doctrine.. but many generations of Mormons did, and continue to believe them.
Take a minute and try to get the seed of Cain through the great flood. And No, Ham's wife Egyptus was not black...

Instead of polling those drinking the Kool-aid you might be better served to poll the millions of women that have left the church on their reasoning....
Personally I don't have a dog in this fight, just many friends on both sides of the fence.... and a good understanding of why folks jump the fence in both directions.

It was not a troll.... Truth be told I'm not much of a porn guy... I don't run from it but I also don't seek it out. I figure porn has a place in the world when used in moderation like everything else. And like everything else it's bad when taken to extremes.
My beef with those that try to legislate porn out of existence is it eliminates free agency.... and last time I checked the LDS church was a huge fan of an individuals right to free agency.
In other words.... I might not agree with what you believe, but I'll defend to the death your right to believe it.

You should poll all 921 of the residents of Jonestown and ask what they think of John Jones. I defy you to find just one person who dislikes and/or disagrees with him.
