I wonder what they plan to ship and from where?
Seems like they would need many local warehouses. The range on these drones couldn't be very far.
I guess this is just one more reason/excuse to not plan anything in advance...

FWIW- The drone range was 10 miles and a weight limit of 5 pound. I believe the idea is to set up a hub in the center of high population.
To me the big hurtle will be getting approval from the FAA. I'm not sure our government will be thrilled with joe sixpack operating his own private fleet of drones.

It will surely be on a small percentage of select items that meet the weight and distance criteria. Kind of like how Amazon Prime started, it wasn't, and still isn't available for every item, the logistics just don't fit. But for those select few that live near one of the distribution centers ordering a lightweight item, AND with an area that meets the requirements that the drone can safely land in, this Prime Air option will show up on the item.

What do you think of the new Amazon drone model?

It's a great concept, but execution will be problematic. Can you imagine that drone flying over a "bad area"? How many bullets will be flying to make it "rain"? Then, there's huge visibility to the thing landing and the placement of the package. Now, instead of porch swiping of packages, we'll have thieves jumping into backyards, etc.
I'll stick to having packages delivered to my PO Box..2020 Jeep Gladiator (2" Lift, 37" Tires, Falcon 3.3 Shocks, Lockers, Sliders)

The biggest problem is sound. Privacy, flight pattern conflicts, theft, & safety concerns all have to do with things going wrong / worst case scenarios. But even in a best case scenario, the sound of the drones would be a greater noise pollution than the world has ever known.
