Thread: Bolts in Yankee Doodle?

    Bolts in Yankee Doodle?

We will be doing Yankee Doodle in about a week and are curious about the initial 2 rappels. We heard that the bolts before the last 100 foot drop are gone now and that webbing is needed to set up a natural anchor. So anybody know if this is true?

Btw. We will have a 180 foot rope (dynamic) will that reach to the bottom of the second rappel if we single strand it?

    Thanks.

#1. I doubt the bolts are gone because guides use this a lot
#2. The rap is only about 70' not 100'
#3. If the bolts are gone there is a huge boulder to rap off of

So no matter what the scenario is it really shouldn't be a big deal

Hmmm. I'd also be surprised to see them gone. Please post what you discover.

There are two entry raps for YD. One is about 70 and the other is 100 (LDC). I think they are both bolted. ?

planning to take little kids there and do attached rappels so I will feel better to do off bolts because of the extra weight

and if any news of possible avoidable water

Did YD Nov 9. Used the LDC, mostly freeing hang rap to enter. Bolts are still there. Only water was in the one pothole near the end with the downclimb around the boulder jam. Water was only shin deep, if that. Adults can bridge accross, small children could easily be carried. A family with 2 very small children (6 to 8 I guess) were using the 2 stage entry and were behind us most of the way. They didn't seem to have any issues and were enjoying themselves. Sorry I don't have a better pic of the water.

Yes. Ms. Hesse + a hefty child might weigh more than 170 lbs (75 kilos) - MIGHT!

That huge tree, not very capable for more than 120 lbs I'm sure...

Lots of anchor options there in Yankee Doodle. So sad it got so frakkin bolted up.

no I agree. I was surprised to literally find bolts on every simple downclimb. They aren't needed.
