    Elephant Butte & Owl Rock

    9 Nov 2013

    (aka Another Brit Abroad...again).

Herein starts one of (hopefully) a few TR's from a blundering blithering Brit on his blethering sometimes blind-folded and blinkered 2-week trips around the wonders of southern Utah canyons and rappelling routes.

For the avoidance of doubt (and there might be a lot of that), this particular report is solely about Elephant Butte and one of its its proboscis (gr) and nothing phallic is inferred at all.

With a weekend of good weather forecast, Scott P, Kessler, Justin, French_de, Theresa, Charlie and I take a day out to
    scale Elephant Butte.

    Setting out:

    One of the scrambles up:

Setting up at the first rap (well...lots of picture taking anyway):

    Down the first rap:

We didn't rapell all the way to the bottom; rather we scrambled down the last little bit to save on grooving the rock:

Looking back at the top of the first rap after continuing the climb:

At the top for a spot of lunch:

1954 feet AMSL, the highest point in Arches:

    The last rap:

After completing Elephant Butte, Scott Charlie & Theresa fancy a look at Owl Rock. We bump into two girls from Colorado who kindly allow Charlie to use their already-rigged rope to ascend so that he could drop his:

Scott, Theresa and Justin all have a go and do pretty well, although only Charlie makes it to the top. Yours truly has a fear of heights so declines to partake.

The winner of the day, however, is Kessler who beat his Dad to the second-highest ascent of the day. His spirit & competitevness to beat everyone else was a pleasure to see.

A great day out in great company, with a beautiful sunset to end.

I thought Elephant Butte was an excellent route. You're definitely treated to one of the best views around from the summit. Great report!

Thanks for the TR and pictures Rob. Without blathering too much I would like say that was a fun trip with a fun group on a really nice day in Arches NP. I really like that route.
