Frary Peak Bighorns
Just got back from a hike up to Frary Peak on Antelope Island. I have hiked it about 5 or 6 times now in hopes of spotting a bighorn sheep to get pictures of. But I have yet to see any. I have gone early in the morning, I have gone in the evening and afternoon. I have been told that they can be found in the Frary Peak area, but I must be doing something wrong cause I certainly can't find them. Has anybody here seen them? If so, any tips?

I've been up there about 10+ and have not seen one up there. They would probably frequent the springs on the north side of the island there.

I've seen a variety of animals around Frary (and the island in general), but never a bighorn sheep! I'm beginning to think they're a myth!

I'm thinking the same thing. They must be a myth. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having a hard time finding them. I think I saw an article online a while back saying something about the herd not doing as well as they had hoped.

I've seen pictures posted here somewhere of them out on Antelope Island.

They do exist! :) Doesn't sound like he had to go off trail to find them. Just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time I guess. I need a little of that luck!

Over the years I've hiked Frary a number of times and only once for sure have seen the bighorns. I was hiking the area below the summit with the antennas toward the summit and heard a clattering of rocks and looked to see several rams possibly 200 years away running away. One other time a friend with me said he saw a ewe but I could;t tell if it was a ewe or doe deer. Anyway, they are there but I never expect to see one.

A few friends and my brother and I are headed up there this Friday afternoon. We'll keep our eyes peeled for 'em.
(Plus I heard there are "big" freshwater ponds on the south side of the island that worth checking out too).●Canyoneering 'Canyon Conditions' @ www.candition.com

I've seen a video online of a hunt that was done a couple years ago, and one of the rangers I've talked to swears they are up by the peak, but I sure as heck can't find them. And everyone on here seems to have the same luck as me. Maybe they're numbers are down now that it is legal to hunt them.

Apparently the DWR just captured 30 bighorn sheep off Antelope Island and transplanted them to central Utah. So if we thought they were hard to spot before....... gonna be next to impossible now. :(
