    Neon Canyon - 25th Sept 2013

Hiked in at 0700 from Egypt TH, beelined to the canyon entrance, entered at Mr Jones' B (more fun) drop in point, floated down narrows, rappelled into Golden Cathedral. Hiked out, reached car at 1700. Had the place to ourselves and a great time was had by all

Neon is currently full to the brim, swimmers everywhere, and keeper potholes aren't

Webbing for rappels/handlines all in good shape.

The Escalante river is generally no more than knee deep, so easy wading to get in. Also the Egypt road is in very good order after repairs last Monday.

PS. Thanks to Rick and Amy of Excursions of the Escalante for up to the minute conditions info before our trip and tips/advice in general.

On the way to camp at the trailhead yesterday we also took a quick run down Egypt 1, which was knee-deep full of viscous red goo. We emerged looking like mudmen... but managed to wash most of it off in the Escalante river this morning

When you say the road out there is good, 2WD mid to low clearance good?

We had a rental GMC Acadia (crossover SUV) which got through fine, with a few little scrapes of the front plastic spoiler here and there. When I say very good, it is a relative term. I'd still want at least mid-clearance and 4WD for half a dozen places, mostly in the last 3 miles towards the trailhead.
