What is the Most Screwed Up Thing About Your State? Check This Chart

For all the U-S-A, U-S-A rah rah that goes around, the United States can be a shameful place.

The below map lays out some of the statistically worst things about each state. It covers everything from health to crime to travel to drug use. Some states don't have it so bad (Ohio, the "nerdiest") but others really kind of suck (Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity at 35.3% of total population ... and ranks poorly in the most number of categories. These include highest rate of child poverty at 31.9%, highest rate of infant mortality at 10.3% lowest median household income at $35,078, highest teen birth rate at 71.9 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 19 and highest overall rate of STDs. Phew.)

It's not 100% science proof ... some of the metrics are taken from purely qualitative rankings (i.e. North Dakota).

It's supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but some of the stats will really shock you.

    Rationale and statistics:

Most stats taken from America's Health Rankings and the U.S. Census unless otherwise noted. (Note - data varries and is not based on 2013 numbers)

    1. Alabama: highest rate of stroke (3.8%) (tied with Oklahoma)

    2. Alaska: highest suicide rate (23.6 suicides per 100,000 people in 2004)

    3. Arizona: highest rate of alcoholism

    4. Arkansas: worst average credit score (636) Source.

    5. California: most air pollution (15.2 micrograms per cubic meter)

    6. Colorado: highest rate of cocaine use per capita (3.9% total population)

    7. Connecticut: highest rate of breast cancer Source.

    8. Delaware: highest abortion rate (27 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44)

    9. Florida: highest rate of identity theft (122.3 reports per 100,000 people)

    10. Georgia: sickly based on highest rate of influenza

    11. Hawaii

Ohio: nerdiest state claim based on highest number of library visits per capita
Why is this so bad? Maybe whoever made the list was from Ohio.

    15.2ug of what?
It has to be particulates. Only particulates and lead are measured in micrograms. Other air pollutants are measured in ppm or ppb.

As for the distribution, they probably picked Los Angeles since overall it has the worse air quality in the US.
Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

They're way off on North Dakota...I've been up there a number of times and there are tons of hot girls. They have that northern European Viking thing going on...notice I said girls, because they seem to hit the wall around 30.

Rampant cocaine in Colorado? Does anybody do that stuff anymore?

    ....what's the problem?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

I don't remember saying anything about Mormons, only close mindedness about sexuality... why is everything about Mormons with you? do you think everyone is picking on you or something?

Cool, so you don't blame Mormons for the supposed lack of openness about sexuality. Good to hear.

I still remember my one and only sex talk with the parents (actually my dad).

    It went like this:

Dad: "Do you know about sex?"

    Me: "Yes".

    Dad: "Oh good".

I think that was the entire conversation.

Of course not all Mormons are like that. My wife at something like age 11 got the whole talk in horrifying detail, including about orgasms, what they are and how women shouldn't fake them; wiping out bodily fluids, etc. I think it scared the heck out of her even to the time when her and I were on the honeymoon.

Wyoming: sounds legit given that all roads out of any town are 65mph or higher. That and antelope at high speed make a mess out of anything they hit!

Nope, That would be Gods fault, he is the one that gives prophets the direction to fear and be all grossed out by the human body.. he told Adam and Eve not to eat the apples.. after that its all gone downhill
