    Alright.... so I just had to get out for a solo ride last night so I hit the southern section of the Skyline trail starting at Pineview Dam.

    Made it up to the old watershed sign spot at the first saddle 3 miles up when the sun was close to dipping behind Lewis Peak so I started to head down.

    A few interesting things happened on the way down including the spill I took. I'm editing the video right now but here's what to look for;
    1. Almost clobbering a baby raccoon, and immediately getting charged by the brave little fella
    2. Shortly after the raccoon is where my front wheel hits a soft spot just off the trail and I take a painful dive
    3. Exhausted from my tumble, I am leaning on a decent size tree when it suddenly falls over.
    4. I ride over 2 miles down the rest of the trail with only one hand able to grip the bar, and in turn only having use of my front brake.

    So besides getting a ton of scrapes and a contusion on my hip, the nasty injury was my dislocated thumb. The bone actually sliced the skin resulting in 4 stitched. It's crazy how much a thumb can hurt, and when the doctor numbed it with 2 shots, and reset the joint, I almost passed out

    I think the full splint was a little over the top, I was expecting the 2 Popsicle stick approach.

    Needless to say I attempted 2 urgent care clinics which were both closed after 8 pm, so I headed into the ER just before 9 pm, got out at 1 am. I thought it was broken for sure the way it was twisted and hurt, but turned out to be dislocated, which for the life of me I can't figure out how it happened.

    Oh damn what a story! Your hand must have hit the ground and got pinned between the bars or somewhere. Looking forward to the video! Damned raccoon!

    Gnarly beef! I had my thumb sliced down to the bone in two places when an eel grabbed hold of it in Hawaii. I was reaching into a tidepool to pick up a shell and WHAM! It was a fraction of a second and felt like a severe electric shock. Close call, as I'm lucky I didn't lose my thumb altogether. If I hadn't had my hand firmly around that shell when it hit me, I probably would have. Still, I was able to flop my thumb over and see one of the bones.

    And yes, it was surprising how bad it hurt...the first hour or so. The "trauma shock". Anyway, hope you have good insurance, as that ER visit is probably a granddad.

    Don't be a pussy... just rub some dirt on it and you should be good to go.

    My thumb was just one of the injuries, now it's my hip that is killing me.

    It feels better now but it may fill up again. The pressure is relieved but some pain remains, especially from that big damned needle.
