    Englestead 5/19/13

Rick, Rob, Amber, Dustin, my son Kyler and I headed down Englestead on Sunday. Dustin and Amber are both experience canyoneers, but this was their first canyon in about a year. Go ahead and start it off with a 300 footer to break in the season for them. Englestead gets a lot of hype about the 300' rap, but it does not get near enough credit for the actual canyon itself. Lots of fun downclimbs, log jams & awkward rap all nestled in very deep twisted slot sections. I refer to it as Fat Man's Misery on steroids. It ranks right up there as one of my favorite canyons. The canyon walls are so tall that you cannot even get them all in the pics. And everything in there all shades of green. We had shuttled a car to the lower Orderville trailhead instead of the traditional down Orderville exit. There is only one obstacle to deal with on the way up and with a partner assist to get the first person up, drop a piece of webbing down, and then a hand assist from the top to get over the boulder chockstone and you have a quick trip back up to the car. I think it took us about 2 hours from the intersection back up to the vehicles. If this isn't on your list it should be.
