    Everett Ruess Style Trips?

Anyone ever take a burro along on any of their canyon trips? Everett Ruess seems to have had success moving among the canyons of South West Utah for long periods of time by packing a Burro or two with supplies. I am wondering how much gear they can carry, how fast and how long they can go for, as well as what they can get up.

A month long trip with a few burros in Southern Utah would be a blast. With modern backpacking equipment you could pack them with lots of freeze dried food rather than the iron cookware Ruess needed to carry.

I would think a couple of pack goats with modern backpacking gear would do a better job than a burro.. eat anything.. smaller and can get into more places..
Tacoma Said - If Scott he asks you to go on a hike, ask careful questions like "Is it going to be on a trail?" "What are the chances it will kill me?" etc. Maybe "Will there be sack-biting ants along the way?"

I saw a guy with a few pack goats in the Unitas last year. He said his goats did nothing but eat, he could not get them to walk more than a few hundred feet before they stopped and stared eating again. He did admit that he was a novice at goat packing.
