    Post Your Canyon Trash Collection

We are stewards of the beautiful places we get to visit year after year. I'm hoping this thread will provide the encouragement to pack out what others have left behind and remove and make new. I'd like to leave the guidelines for posting here fairly open. If you hauled someone else's trash out of a canyon, take a picture and post it! In addition, please feel free to post before and after pics of your amazing anchor building skills and handy-work. If you cleaned up an ugly anchor with 5 different types of material in 5 different colors, post the before and after shot. Perhaps you rebuilt an anchor to eliminate the possibility of rope grooves, post the pics! Maybe you spent a weekend somewhere and have a pile to show off. Bottles, clothing, webbing, metals, whatever.

I'll start: 5 days in the North Wash garbage collection...

The macramed 'G' was found after exiting the canyon. The rest was in canyon. We reused some of what we found.

    Great Thread

I pulled this out of U-Turn in November. Over 60' of brand new webbing and a couple quick-links. On the up-side it looks like I will not be buying any new webbing in the foreseeable future. On the down-side the quick-links used were these monster 1/2" things that weighted about a pound each. I tossed those in the nearest dumpster.

This mess is mostly from Larry Canyon but does include MMI, Undercover, and a small amount from Alcatraz. That white "horse" rope was holding an oval non-locking carabiner at the top of the last 90 ft rap in MMI. Someone even left a great 48" sewn runner as a hand line where there was already additional material in place.

Das Boot - 60 feet of webbing, 5 quick links, a rap ring, and a pair of sunglasses. One mans trash is another mans treasure as I won't have to buy any quick links for a while and my GF has new canyoneering sunglasses.

This is the trash we took out of Spry Canyon last week. I found multiple anchors with 2-3-sometimes 4 strands of webbing. We tried to simplify every anchor we found that had multiple strands

I wish I took a before pic of this anchor in Spry, it was a mess! I only have my handy-work of the after.

This pile of trash was taken out of Englestead a couple of days ago. Actually, the purple and red strands were from Spry . There is lots of room for anchor improvement in Englestead. We didn't have the time to rebuild half of what we saw. Go prepared, don't just add on... Make new and remove the old.

Its been at least 10 years since I've had to buy any canyon hardware. All I can say to those leaving unnecessary gear is thanks for the donation.

There's only like 2-3 drops in that canyon, that's a lot of trash.

    Not-so-Bomberproof anchor.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.
