Edmaier's Secret / Brown Pocket
Last January I spent time in the Vermilion Cliffs area and decided to visit Edmaier's Secret, also called Brown Pocket. I was gonna visit he Coyote Buttes the next 2 days, so I thought of this as a good warming up.
The hike in was easy and pretty short. Sunlight was inviting me to come closer....
After arriving at the base of Brown Pocket, it started out with brain rocks all over. Wandering around them was fun, being fascinated by the shapes and views. This area is absolutely not very colorful compared to the Coyote Buttes, everything seems quiet brown, but the landscape itself is worth a visit in my opinion.
The views were great...
After spending some time below I found my way up to the top of the main butte and enjoyed more of the fantastic views. South-east via north all the way to the west panorama shot; too bad zooming is not possible here...
I even found a landmark, and left it were it was...
A desert water tank, frozen solid, in a great landscape
Exploring the area further I found some nicely colored rocks after all. Again, not as great as the Coyote Buttes, but absolutely a remarkably beautiful scenery!
The way erosion has treated this place is unimaginable....
And nobody will doubt how fragile this land is...
please remember and respect this fragility if you ever visit this area.
Slowly and carefully descending I reached the bottom of Brown Pocket again, wandered around a bit more and then headed back to my car.
It was a great day, a fantastic environment, a great re-introduction to the Vermilion Cliffs this holiday before heading to the

Thanks for posting this TR Maarten. I have a day trip planned in this area late April /May. Ever since I walked by it in Upper Buckskin, I knew I needed to explore further. We plan on a day and evening at White Pocket and S Coyote Buttes too. Very cool!
