Thread: Suggested camping locations south of Hanksville, but north of Sandthrax?

Suggested camping locations south of Hanksville, but north of Sandthrax?

If we are hoping to get into a few canyons in the Angel Slot &/or Poison Springs areas over Prez Weekend 2013, does anyone have suggestions for where to camp besides Sandthrax.

That is a great spot but is there anything closer to Hanksville that comes recommended; easy to find and to access?

Also, if you are interested in doing any canyons in that area over the Feb. 16,17, 18 2013 weekend, respond here too.

From Highway 95 you turn east to reach the Poison Spring canyons and west to reach Little Egypt.

    Shane,
Never have gone in there before. Are there any trees/shrubs/rock formations that could make a windbreak?

Its a lot like Goblin Valley with only basic BLM primitive camping rules. No trees, but lots of camp spots tucked back along the cliff base.

    Doug,
There's also something of a campsite at the parking for Arscenic, Constryctnine, etc. It's not sheltered from wind, but there's some limited open slickrock, a few scattered junipers and level enough for tents or sleeping in parked vehicles.

I would not "camp" at the trailhead as it's just a wide spot in the road. It's OK if you are rolling in late and just want a place to sleep for the night, but it's not what I would call a camp site.

There is a reason everyone camps in North Wash, and that's because it's one of the better places around to camp. There is good camping up by Crescent Creek, but that's a little further off the road.

Just camp by the area where you park for the Poison Springs canyons. Primitive but great views of the Henrys' and you just walk back to your camp after the slots.

5-6 miles in poison springs. Gorgeous! Rock art, springs, great desolation...
btw. U can access the canyons to the south from psprings canyon...

Thanks to all for the many replies. We did camp, at Shane's suggestion at Little Egypt. Parking lot was fine for those who wanted to sleepin vehicles and as Shane said, down by the goblins themselves was quite nice, until the oft expected Winds of UT set in then it was solid sand in mesh sided tents.

We did Constricnyne (sp?) today and we will camp there in the future for doing the other 2 canyons. There seemed to be plenty of flat sand and slckrock both for a small to mid sized group.

I look forward to investigating the other suggest places so thanks to all for the replies.
