Shelf Canyon Zion National Park
So me and my girlfriend had some free time today and decided to go explore in Zion. We were wanting to do behunin but with the rain in the forcast decided to check out something shorter and more safe. We wanted to do one that neither of us have done so we decided to check out Shelf Canyon. Shelf Canyon is the draining that empties into Pine Creek by the parking lot on the curve on the east side of the main tunnel.
We first hiked up canyon overlook trail. From there you have to hoof it up the never ending hill toward Spry Canyon. After you reach that ridge you drop down that draining to the east and then back up north to the mouth of Shelf Canyon. After a short while you are at the first and only rappel, but its a unique rappel. The webbing was in good shape and extended at least 50 feet to get past the bushes. We used 2 200' ropes and barely reached the bottom. If you had a little shorter ropes you could stop at a ledge higher and downclimb fairly easy though.
Here is a little video from the trip!!!
