I think if I can mount a post next to my seat it might work?
Just modified an old tripod to accept the GoPro. Now I need to figure where to best mount it!

Just make sure it doesn't get in the way of your arm or oar when you're making a wide swing on the row.

Here's a shot of how I had my tripod on the rear of the raft, it was rigged up right there at launch because the raft was a rental, but if you had a few days to work on it you could really come up with something solid. REMEMBER to tether the camera a second way, Alex found this out the hard way when he flipped and the whole tripod snapped off.

And here is the view from that mount:

Various other mounting positions here, but if you're looking for the general long term mount to catch most of the good action and not want to fiddle around with it, the rear tripod is the ticket.

    Hi Bo!

This trip looks vaguely familiar. I bet it's going to be a blast!!

    Bo,

Sounds like an awesome trip - so glad I'm part of it, too!

We are trying to figure out how to best mount our GoPros, also. We were thinking of sticking one of the mounts on our Pelican case that will be strapped down on the boat.

Has anyone here tried a mount of this type?

    Thanks!
    Shannon

Hi Shannon! I too look forward to this amazing adventure and to meeting new friends! 35 days and counting. Its hard to focus on anything but prep. I have done a few river trips with Dave and Mike but have not met anyone else thus far. I have strong feelings that Josh has put together a great group! See ya soon!

Will this be clamped on somehow, or just stuck on with the regular mount? Where will the Pelican case be in relation to the raft? If it's right in the center of everything I would advise to stay away from that. You'll quickly see how much you'll be guarding the camera from those who want to sit on the case or walk across it.

If you want a versatile mount that will work in multiple places on the frame, I would grab the Roll Bar Mount shown here, you'll be able to clamp it on to your oars, or just about anywhere on the frame.

This one also looks pretty versatile

Oh and one more thing, if you're going to use the Tripod, be sure to buy the tripod mount for around $5. This just screws onto the 1/4" thread.

Great info, thanks! We've got the tripod mount, but not the roll bar one, I'll definitely pick that up. So excited!!!

Bo, I totally agree about focus...it is all about packing lists, guides books, and watching videos around here :-)

8 days to go before the adventure begins! Lets see? Pull weeds; service swamp cooler; pack and then re-pack; one more stop at Liq. store; unpack and re-pack one more time; watch a few more vids.; quick trip to NM; work 5 days nxt wk.; load the vehic. and we're off! Did I forget anything? Aw heck....I'll only be gone for 23 days!

We will be thinking about. A bunch of us were at Toroweap on Sunday and I thought of you while I was looking down at the rafters and kayakers.

We look forward to the TR.
