    Imlay. Oct 19, 2012

Just did Imlay today. Having rained all night, we were slightly concerned about the water situation. When we hit the crossroads, we noticed a flow of about 1-2cfs. We decided to go for it. The canyon was awesome. Flowing up to about 3 cfs lower in the canyon. What a special treat to do Imlay in such special conditions. We left the grotto before 5a.m. and we were back to the shuttle at about 5. We took our time but we had plenty of daylight. What a fantastic day.

That looks great, the closest thing to flow I've have in Imlay was last April and it was barely a trickle. Great timing on this one .

So I gotta know, how was the log soup sections with flow? Seems like the deeper it is the tougher it would be. And when I did with no flow it was like chest deep. Did you have to swim it?

It was a full swim through it. I could feel logs floating as deep as my feet. I wouldn't really call it a swim. More of a grab anything with some substance with your hands and pull through. Couldn't use your legs much because there is so much underwater debris. It only took 5-10 minutes to get through. The worst was trying to get out of it onto the next jam as everything you grabbed and stepped onto just caved down into the water until you almost had a 2-3 foot tall log lip to try and climb

We also encountered a lot of unstable debris early on the canyon. We had to be very careful with each step. I bumped a stick in a log jam over my head on a chock stone and brought down several hundred pounds of debris. It buried my pack that I taken off to crawl under the chock stone. Very scary.
