Camping Options around Hans Flat and near Big Springs

I'm planning a long weekend to do Big Springs and High Spur. I see that the road towards Big Springs is within GCNRA a lot of the ways and there is only one official campsite (High Spur) on that stretch. The disadvantage of that spot is that you must pay and also it's reserved for one of the nights I wanted. Searching the web I think the High Spur campsite does have a stunning view though.

Then as you get near NW Fork of Big Springs you pop out of the NRA and I assume at large camping is an option again. Seems like that might be a good general area. The other choice would be staying closer to Hans Flat out in BLM land. Hard to tell if there are nice spots in that area. Maybe in the section that separates Barrier Creek and Spur Fork? Disadvantage here would be about an hour's drive each day to the THs.

I'd also appreciate any recent beta on the road condition as you go Hans Flat to Big Springs. At all passable in 2WD? Of course, conditions change quickly, but just curious if it is an option in the best conditions.

    Thanks!
