    Vacation

    I have the next 2 weeks off and my original plan was to go to Colorado Springs but
    then the fires came so I changed to plan B and was going to Bend Oregon.

    Unfortunately there is not only is a fire up there but 3 more on the drive up
    thru northern cali. { I am coming from Phx }

    So my question is if I want to go hiking in Colorado but I want to avoid all the
    places that have closed trails because of the fires where should I go ?

    What city should I stay in that would have me centrally located where I can drive in
    different directions to go on a bunch of great hikes ?

    Thank you in advance for any help.

    if you're camping out, Silverton area.

    if you're staying in motels, Montrose. I'm assuming that town would offer cheaper rates than Telluride or Ouray and you'd have access to Black Gunnison and Grand Mesa in addition to the
    San Juans.

    Colorado is a big state with literally thousands of miles of hiking trails. Probably 1/3 have good to great mountain views and vistas. The Colorado Trail has 500 miles views that you can take in short to long pieces. I was there in Rocky Mountain National Park and Pikes Peak which are great hiking trails.
