    GoPro Project Ideas

    Hey all,

My sisters got me a GoPro as b-day present. They gave it to me early since the wife and kids and I are headed to Hawaii for a couple of weeks this summer. I've had and Olympus water proof camera I've loved and used for years and had never considered a GoPro.

I'm looking for ideas for it's first outing (Maui). If I don't come up with something somewhat creative to do I'm sure our sons will put it to use in some twisted fashion--bottom of toilet...

Uhhh... well what activities are you going to do in maui? Hehe. Hiking, surfing, swimming, scuba, sitting in a hotel?... It's hard to pop up ideas without knowing that I guess.

I would say a key factor for the GoPro though is it doesn't film stuff far away well, it has no zoom, and sucks in low light. So plan something close like 30 feet max and brightly lit. Also having an assortment of attachments for mounting it different places is pretty key for getting good shots. My favorite right now is the end of a hiking stick. Just putting it in the puddle and filming polywogs or humming birds or an overhead rappel seems to make my shots come out better. Couple samples.

Your safety is not my responsibility.

Definitely take it to the ocean, get some footage of the waves rolling over you. Heck, take it everywhere you go. Even when you film stupid stuff it could come out looking pretty cool. If not.... just hit delete.

Wanna barrow my head board mount?

Turn the entire bed so it's looking out over the Pacific and you will get some great video....

I posted this link once in a different thread asking about software. I think it is a good example of how the right technique can make a good video even if it is just a wave rolling in. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the bikini model was a bad idea either and even a pencil sketch would look good, but the video and sound are well done and make a nice little clip with just a few seconds of ocean wave.
