Anyone know how to mask GPS location on phone?

My phone is a work phone. I was originally told that I could use it as my own phone and my employer would pay for it. I was informed today that my employer wants me (and everyone at my office) to install a program on my phone that allows them to see my screen at any time, record every typed word, use the GPS to monitor my location, etc.

I don't do much on my phone that I feel must be kept private, but I hate the idea of my location being tracked 24/7. Does anyone have any good suggestions for how to get around this? This app allows them to remotely enable my GPS, so I am wondering if there is an app that will mask my location to others while still allowing me to take advantage of Google Navigate / the GPS.

Who do you work for, Obama?

Put a piece of masking tape on the screen where your location is displayed to "mask" your location.

JK I dunno. I wish you luck though...gotta stick it to the man!

I don't know the technical answer to the question but this would really, really bother me. I would get my own phone and only, if ever, use the work phone for only work, if ever. I am not sure if the phone would ever leave the office. I am not sure I would ever turn it on, in fact I am pretty sure I would simply decline the offer under those conditions. It would be a matter of principle for me. Lest anyone think I have something evil or sinister to hide, my wife has total access to all my phone content and knows every password. But a boss, if I had one, would never know that stuff. That is just nuts, Discgo.

I'd just walk in, hand them the phone, and say "keep it".... no way in hell I'd put up with this, and if a couple other employees feel the same way and follow suit the empoyeer will quickly relent....

BUT.... if the empoyer supplied the phone with app and asked me to keep the app turned on during business hours (I could turn it off on personal time) I'd have no problem with that.

And I'm speaking as the owner of a modest sized company with a dozen employees scattered around the valley during business hours.

Im not sure that it would be legal to mask the gps location. It is used for emergency location if you call 911. it is also used for reverse 911. Emergency workers can send a message to everyone in a given area to inform them to evacuate. This feature has been required on all cell phones for several years now. Not a good idea to tamper with it. Even if you manage to mask the gps, they can still locate you within a 1/4 mile or so by using the cell towers.

(Side note) A neighbor of mine was caught and charged with over 40 counts of child abuse. His work started tracking his phone while making deliveries. The information gathered from his irregular stops, helped to uncover multiple victims that he had been molesting for several years and on company time. Two of which were my little brothers, and he was starting to condition my own two boys as well. I think that it is smart for an employer to track their employees while on the clock. The company can be help liable for your actions while at work. But I also believe that it is wrong to track you when your off the clock, and it is a violation of privacy. Only solution is like the others suggestions. Leave the phone at work or take the battery out when off the clock.

I might be paranoid but that doesn't mean they are not watching.

    It's not illegal

And the CIA has yet to assemble a special department to assess and combat GPS tampering... but don't be surprised if they do it eventually... using the taxpayer's money of course.

Do you know the name of the app? I'd like to check it out and see what you are dealing with.

Since writing apps is something I have tried out I thought I'd look into this a little more and see if there was a work around... here is what I know so far.... If the application asks for "Access coarse location" (Wi-Fi and cellular) or "Access fine location" (GPS), there are (at least) 4 way to disable it:

    - disable GPS and wireless position in Settings / Location & security, uncheck "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" (but this will also make other programs that use position like GPS navigation stop working).

    - don't install the app

    - ask developer to remove this permissions or grant user control of the feature. Most apps use this to set right position (Weather) or to show ads (freeware apps are paid by this).

    - try to recompile the app and lock down the permissions (if you have the .apk) : Lock down your Android APK permissions – Intrepidus Group - Insight

    I also found this app

    Fake My Location

Set it so you are always in chruch....

And just for Acca.... I bet you won't find that app in your mighty iStore. No way in hell Steve Jobs would want you to have that type of control of your life.

I don't know the name of the APP, but I know it is an extension of our "Kaseya" monitoring tool which we use for our clients equipment. If it isn't this, it is something similar. It is pretty sweet for computers because it allows SO MUCH work to be automated. Part of my objection here is that I was told I could do whatever I wanted with the phone, and that they would pay for it. My wife and I are now on separate cell phone providers and our contracts no longer coordinate in renewal scheduling. But I am leaning more and more towards just leaving the phone at my desk and getting my own cell phone plan at this point if I can't find a way to mask this.

In the Army your boss knows everything; you can't call in sick you have to show up and prove it, they have your blood, DNA, every place I've ever lived (well, as an adult, for the security clearance), pictures of tattoos, even ex-girlfriend's names ("roommate", again for the security clearance) and of course everyone in the unit knows everyone else's secrets. Rumors and gossip in the army are worse than in the relief society. It's a lot to put up with sometimes, but even I'd baulk at this. If my boss gave me a phone with those requirements I'd either refuse, or I'd leave it in the office, turned off, and with the battery removed.

Unless you want to rock the boat, it is time to get your own phone. Install the app and leave the work phone at work. Two mobile phones suck but it is better than tangling up your private life with work.
It's your fault, you shouldn't have been there!
