Pleiades Canyon Question and Blue Angels

This September, we are looking to catch the Navy Blue Angels Airshow in Grand Junction, Colorado. The day before, we are looking to do Pleiades Canyon in Moab while en route there.

Is the water flow in Pleiades fairly constant without much fluctuation? We are understanding that the water in the Brumley Canyon comes from a perpetual spring, and does not change much. With that said, would wetsuits be recommendable in September?

It is spring and snowpack fed and fluctuates drastically. Often in years like this Plaides can be comparably dry by mid-summer. Best to wait until a few weeks before hand to get up to date information about flow. That said, even with a minor flow the canyon can be extremely cold in the autumn as it is at comparably high elevation for a Utah slot.

I did it with a group of 10 last Saturday (with a TR to come soon), and there is still a good flow coming down. At that elevation (about 9000) it felt about 80 degrees (air temp) and water temp was probably in the 50s, but the canyon was very refreshing and due to the large number of people in our group there was a lot of waiting around at rappels. A few people in the group (mainly the woman) were shivering even with 3mm+ wetsuits on due to the waiting. However, there was plenty of sunshine which made it feel great.

Come September, it will probably be 1/2 the flow of what it was Saturday - but it will still be flowing nicely and be cold. Since it's late in the season, the water flow will not splash higher than your thighs; ergo no need to bring wetsuits. But, if you have a large group going through, just remember that waiting around at the raps for your group to come through will definitely chill you to the bone.

I love Pleiades (or as locals call it, the Seven Sisters) - it's a jewel of the La-Sals. Especailly during the summer months. 110 in the valley, and 65 in the canyon. A perfect retreat. Even in October it's still a great getaway from the heat.

Raging torrent to garden hose are the fluctuations... Often from mid to late summer cheapo ($8) Wal-Mart rainsuits are the best setup for the slot instead of wetsuits.

Rain gear is the way to go. Just need to keep the splash off.

On a side note: I saw the Blue Angels in Grand Junction several years ago and it was awesome..... hot, but awesome.
