Made it to Gillette, WY tonight after a 4 hour layover in Red Lodge, MT. @double moo had the final drive go out on his '95 R1100GS.
After searching the town for options, we ended up loading his bike in the back of a U Haul and he's headed back to SLC.
Tomorrow we hit: Devils Tower, Sturgis, The Black Hills and Mount Rushmore!

Well it was a wild ride indeed! We did get to see all of the landmarks, etc that we wanted to see, but it was not issue free. After we loaded @double moo's bike into a U Haul, I never thought that I would suffer the same fate. After spending a night in Sidney, NE we decided to take the 8 hour option (not counting stops) and take I-80 home on Monday. We both had to back from work on Tuesday morning. Going through Colorado would have been funner, but it was an 11 hour deal (not counting stops) and this was the final day of the ride...no thanks.
We stopped at the wrong end of town when we first arrived in Sidney and got some suspect gas, we thought anyway. We got an early start and started bolting down I-80. We had planned on stopping for fuel in two places, which would put us home in the late afternoon/early evening. When we got on the road everything was going fine until my bike started to sputter. I immediately thought it was the gas and that maybe I would be okay. It kept doing it for 10 miles or so and finally died about 200 feet from the exit of a small town. Lucky! It was a town called Pine Bluffs, WY, which is just past the border from Nebraska.
I rolled it down the exit to a gas station. There was a Napa, two gas stations and a couple fast food places. That was the extent of this town. I drained the gas and put in some fresh stuff with no luck. So I called @double moo and a mechanic friend and decided that it might be a plugged fuel filter if it was in fact bad gas. Luckily enough Napa has a filter that works for the bike and they had it in stock! It was about an hour fix to take off the take and access the filter, which is inside the tank. Unfortunately that didn't get the bike started. So we tried checking the spark plugs, fuel through the injectors and a few other things. Nothing worked and we were nearly 8 hours from home. I sent Steve to get a Budget rental truck 40 miles away in Cheyenne. When he got back we loaded it up and I followed him home just to make sure the perceived "bad gas" didn't kill his bike too. It didn't and we got home just before midnight.
It was a first for @double moo and myself as we have been on dozens of rides and longer trips without issue. However our bikes are getting up there in mileage. He has a '95 R1100GS with 78,000 and mine is an '04 R1150GS with 73,000.
We will get them fixed and ride again!!
