    Yankee Doodle. 05-04-12

We made a run through yankee doodle friday after work. My dad had never done a canyon before but wanted to try before we did the subway on sunday. It will be obvious, he is the one with the cowboy hat and levis. For some reason most of the pictures werent on the camera when we got out, but we got a few. No bugs yet. Water was ankle to knee deep

Nice TR. When do the bugs usually start to hit?

Not sure exactly when. We've been there 3 times this year and had no bug problems. Last year they were bad but it's only a problem at the top. I think people way over exagerate the bug issue. The canyons are in the wild and there will always be bugs, spiders & snakes. That makes it fun anyways

The bugs have been and are gone from Yankee Doodle for the year. The cedar gnats hit heavy in the spring and normally last for a couple of weeks.

Its hard to judge when they will hit heavy because it depends on how dry the year is and your elevation.... but.... they usually hit sometime between Easter and Memorial day... at least that is a rough guide line I use.
