    Some Upgrades To The Dooge

As some of you know, I'm into the diesel aspect of motorsports. Sled Pulling being the primary interest I left the Work Stock class and entered the 2.6 Super Street class. 2.6 would signify a 2.6" inducer bore measurement of the turbo. Yep, went with a bigger than stock turbo to lift me out of that class. With that, I need fuel upgrades, more rpm's and free flowing air and a diet Even though the truck is a 3500, I swapped out the single rear wheel for the dually rear. I figured if I needed the extra traction, I can add two more Here are a few pics, enjoy

Quite the hairdryer add on--any dyno run or estimated hp?

No dyno trips yet, still tuning. And I don't want to guesstimate. I know my numbers before the additions, 425/944 at the rear wheels. That was with a programmer and lift pump. I need to find a dyno that has the ability to "load" the truck to get the most out of the parts and get a truer reading. If I can double what I had, I'd be happy. Driving it around and doing the few Pulls I have done to date, it's a night and day difference.

I hit the first Pulls with the somewhat over stock stall of 2100rpms. I knew that would hinder the performance and it did. I could not get that turbo to light off the line, but when it did, it pulled. My next weekend that I Pulled, I now have a 2800rpm stall and it works much better. I could probably use a 3000, but I'll make this 2800 work. Too much work swapping them Now I just have to try locking out 1st gear and I should get the EGT's to climb higher without the truck wanting to move.

The last Pull before the build:

After the build before the better stall

    With the better stall

As you can see, it's still a work in progress
    Thanks DC

That bad boy really burns the coal.

What type/brand of programmer do you use?

You know me, loving my carbon footprint The bigger, the happier I am But, it does clean up quite a bit when the turbo lights.
I use the Smarty with the TNT-R software. As soon as EFILive comes out for my year, I'm jumping on it.

Looks like some full pulls, how did you do against the competition?

Can this truck be run on the street or is it just for play?

That is one cool truck, I'm a Cummins fan.

There was more in the Work Stock for me, but it was getting old. There are only three other trucks that are similarly built. One Dodge and two Duramax. They thought it was about time I stepped it up, so I did. But, as of now, they're all down There is a 99 Dodge dually that is 2.6, but running the VP pump and his tuning only allows him to max out at 4000rpm's. Being a manual he needs to be higher, once he gets it, it will be a different truck. He has the P-pump, but really does not want to convert it. We have another guy that stopped Pulling, had a 1stGen 2.6, good truck, but no longer. As in most Pulling rules you're allowed to step up in class, but cannot drop down. So, we usually get a lot of Work Stock guys step up an compete, when they show up The 1st vid is my last WS Pull. Similar outcomes for me in that class. The similar trucks like to Pull out of state in places like Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky, North & South Carolina and Ohio. I make trips back to Connecticut and will hit the surrounding states up north.

Outside the hood stack, it's completely street legal.
    Thanks for the compliment

Nice! I'm digging your 5.9 add-ons. I'm thinking about moving away from the stock VGT turbo and going a bit bigger myself, to include larger injectors and head studs. I won't be sled pulling like you, but I do enjoy eating little ricers at the light and towing 19k+ pounds regularly.

Not sure with the 6.7, but a 62mm turbo and 90hp injectors work well in combination with a programmer while towing. And eating Ricers Just have to keep the EGT temps in check while towing. Twins do that well Then you can add more fuel and eat Ricers while towing

Even towing in the most difficult terrain, I've never seen more than 1400F EGT. I turn the power down on my BlackMaxx and the truck handles it fine. I am probably going to do water/methanol injection this year though.. The only issue I've had heavy towing so far has been high trans temps. (~260F). I have a Mag Hytec trans pan, but towing at 5-10mph in Utah mountain terrain keeps the TC unlocked and that trans spikes in a hurry.

Have you looked into a remote tranny cooler equipped with a thermostat and fan? I just took off the stock stuff and added one in the bed of the truck.

I haven't. Where would you mount it? Up against the back of the bed or near the tailgate? For towing, it wouldn't be practical. I have thought about after-market electric fans to add cooling at low speeds.

Aftermarket electric fans are the way to go. Scrap that clutch fan. Mine is mounted up against the bed wall, opposite the tailgate. You can fabricate a cage for it so nothing slides and comes in contact with it. You might be able to squeeze it in up front.

Electric fans work far better than the clutch fans, scrap the the clutch fan

My tranny cooler is on the bed, opposite of the tailgate. I ran the lines where the stack used to be. A cage can be fabricated to protect it from things sliding around the back. You might have success with a aftermarket tranny cooler without the fan, added to the front, in front of the air conditioning condenser.
