20th of May: annular solar eclipse, visible in the South West of the States
Hello everybody, I just heard that May 20th a annular solar eclipse will happen, which is visible in the South West of the States:
Now, since I happen to be in Utah that time , I wanna enjoy this phenomena in the best location possible.... does anybody have any tips, where to go to see this? What happens to the daylight, what do the mountains look like with this light? How to best take pictures of this? What background will best suit this phenomena (where to enjoy this)?
I still have to dive into background-info, but what I did read on a quick survey is that:
- at the best moment, the moon will be in the middle of the sun, leaving a ring of sun directly visible around it (this is called an annular solar eclipse),
- we humans DO NEED special glasses to watch this phenomena safely,
- I think (if I understand correctly) that the solar eclipse will last till sunset, what makes this quite a special sunset, if the sun sets with the moon in the middle of it.
Are there other Bogley members who wanna enjoy this? Is it a fun idea to join each other in some special place in Utah, make it a Bogley Annular Solar Eclipse Event (B.A.S.E.E. 2012)?
More info on the eclipse available on i.e.:

and many many more sites.
Let me know what you people think!

I've bought my baader film and intend to shoot this. It will be very close to me.
I'm toying with locations and the possibilities of adding a landscape into the image(will have to be a composite, I think)
I've heard rumors of close to 10,000 people in fields around Kanarraville.

I was also thinking about which landscape would suit most beautiful as a background. Both for my own view and for the pictures...
Hmmm, and there goes my hope for a quiet eclipse... hahaha
I was wondering about White Pocket area... not many people will go there I think, and from what I've heard, it is an awesome area.
Still high on my list...

I'll be on a houseboat at Lake Powell with 23 friends. I think the eclipse will go nicely with a buzz.

Check out The Photographer's Ephemeris app. You can see where the sun or moon will rise or set and where it is anytime of the day.
