Deseret Peak Twin Couloirs Ski Mountaineering
My wife and I skied the north-facing Twin Couloirs on Deseret Peak in June 2010. Visible from I80, these 1000' shots often hold good snow into the summer months. Deseret Peak is located in the Stanisbury Mountains west of Salt Lake City.

The belly of the beast (western Twin)
On top and in the middle of the Twins
The reward! Skiing the steeper, tighter eastern Twin.

Powder, I've been impressed with your recent TRs and photos - thanks for sharing!
Deseret peak - one I've planned for many years (to hike, that is) but have never done it. Maybe this year? HmmCheck out Canyoneering 'Canyon Conditions' @ www.candition.com

jman - thanks, I've been enjoying reading others' TR and seeing photos, so I thought I'd contribute a bit.
Deseret Peak wilderness is wonderful and the summit view is really stunning. If you have the gear to climb easy snow, using the route I did above puts you about 300' below the summit.

Wow, fantastic!
Haven't skied out there in years. I hear they close the gate lower down now during winter.
Great shots!

Yep they do, adds a bit of distance to the hike,
In June 2010 my wife and I went up there and got stormed out, luckly we came down as just after we came out of the narrows they closed the road as they expected the runoff to wash out the road, and it did and they didn't have the road open again until August of 2010...
Tacoma Said - If Scott he asks you to go on a hike, ask careful questions like "Is it going to be on a trail?" "What are the chances it will kill me?" etc. Maybe "Will there be sack-biting ants along the way?"

We must have skied it a few days prior to that, because right after our trip I noticed that the road closed again for the summer because of flooding. The road was also closed until about a week prior to our trip. Pretty lucky to grab a nice weather day in that short window. The extra distance might make that ski an overnighter or a really crazy day.
"Powder snow skiing is not fun. It is life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live — fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them." - Dolores LaChapelle
