    Water Canyon

The road to water canyon is a total mess right now, don't attempt it without high clearance. We made it in a 2-wheel drive tacoma but 4-wheel drive would be better. the canyon is full of deep snow and a bit of ice and water. Our rope got wet after the second rappel and started to freeze and collect snow. By the time we got the big 170'ish rap set up the rope was fairly frozen. When I got over the edge I was made aware of how much less friction a frozen rope has . After wrapping a couple horns on the old ATS I felt a lot better, it's actually the first time I've had to use the horns and I was glad they were there. I stayed mostly dry through the canyon, maybe knee deep when I broke through the ice in a couple places. It was snowing most of the time we were there. As always with Water Canyon we had to stop at Craigo's for lunch afterwards, best pizza and bread sticks in Colorado City

Awesome stuff! How was the narrows sections? That place is hard enough to get through in normal weather, can't imagine it all snow and iced up. Although having the ants gone would be nice.
Your safety is not my responsibility.

Not the Water Canyon I was expecting (thinking of the Spur area in the Roost), but awesome report. Looks like fun!

There was enough snow and ice in the bottom of it that we just walked right through, no stemming involved.

I was wondering how you did that last rap in the snow!

    Awesome shots!

    Water Canyon

Surely that is not Water Canyon in Robbers Roost; from last weekend?

A bunch of us did Middle Blue John last Sunday in the snowstorm and had no more than 2-4" of light, new snow on the exit corner out the head of the West Fork exit route.

Then Monday, all was beautiful in the region.

By the way, about 10 people from our group went knee to chest deep in 4 or 5 pools as they thought they would 'walk' through Ding & Dang near Goblin Valley on the snowy Sunday.

Great slot canyon, wonderful day hike to Canaan Mountain and great backpack from Hildale to Rockville. It's a wonderful area!
