Portal Canyon
Went down Portal Canyon in the virgin river gorge last week. Holy bushwack! The approach was pretty clean, but the canyon is full of brush and trees. Other than the brush this was a great canyon. You gain around 2300' elevation on the hike in which put us into patchy snow. Some good sized raps, topping out around 175'. Really deep big walled canyon.

Nice pics man, looks like a fun time.
From the pictures, it kind of looks like you did that long rap off the knotchock w/ no backup. Is that the case?

Looks pretty intense & vertical. Have never heard of this one. Appears to be south of St. George overlooking the gorge & interstate? Doesn't appear to be sandstone rock - more metamorphic stuff?
