    Beirdneau Summit on snowshoes

Yesterday I hiked to beirdneau summit in the Cache National Forest on snowshoes. The approach is normally an easily followed switch-back trail up to the ridge dividing Green Canyon and Logan Canyon. Route finding through the spruce forest made it a lot more strenuous than it is in other seasons. Once on the ridge it was an easily followed, beautiful climb toward the peak at 8,907' with awesome views of the snow slopes into both canyons. I was on the top for less than a minute due to the icy wind...

Nice! Yeah, that summit looks pretty wind-swept. The route along the ridge line looks fun, though--I love breaking virgin snow like that.

Good one! I need to get out and do this soon. The snow is calling.
Just where is it I could find bear, beaver, and other critters worth cash money when skint?

Yeah. It feels good to see your tracks all alone up there. It kind of like you are a pioneer, or the first one to ever be there, and in a way you are. . Even though in the summer you see people lining up to do the same hike.

AWESOME!!! Should have took me with ya! LOL! That's a pretty long hike in snowshoes! Especially since you would have had to of started at the mouth of Green Canyon! How long did it take you?

Yeah, it was pretty long! With stopping for lunch, and doubling back at least four times trying to find a good route up the snow covered switch-backs at the start, it took me about nine hours. I head-lamped it on the way down, following my tracks. I won't lie, I was pretty beat after.
