Yikes. Snowbasin is much too expensive to be treating people like that.

While its hard to tell exactly what happened, it sure looks like the resort owes someone a big fat "WE SUCK & WE ARE SORRY FOR HAVING EMPLOYEES ACT LIKE THEY DID!"

Hopefully the resort sees this and fires those snow cops unless there is some back story like they bailed from the lift or something else we dont see.

The only thing I can see that warranted a warning, was hitting the jump a few feet from a "blue coat" (Snowbasin employee??).
Ski patrol at our area, asks that you not stick it in their face. That incident may have been a little in their face. With a lot of traffic coming thru this zone, they were obviously manned up to keep the flow running without any accidents. The boarders, being locals, should know not to ruffle their feathers. I've had my fair share of incidents, hucking cat tracks and poaching a closed run or two. DON'T DO IT! Especially not while they're standing right there!

A warning should have been sufficient. Not a tongue lashing. The patroller did not handle it well. Being on camera! HELLO!! Dude! Why don't you swear at the kid.

That area where they were skiing is marked SLOW and is dangerous because certain skier/boarder types will not slow down. I do not liking taking beginner skiers through that area. When I ski with my daughter or younger kids in that section I ski right behind them so they don't get taken out by kids like that snowboarder. Sarah was taken down by a skier who was going way too fast that guy is dam lucky I didn't kill him. That little section is just that short.... and narrow.... and it won't take the fun out of your day to obey the posted sign. These kids are from Layton and I would bet money that they have skied Snowbasin many times before and are fully aware they were out of line. I do think the ski patrol handled it badly especially swearing, very unprofessional, but the kids did as well. It is clearly posted slow, you are not going slow when you are jumping. I am pretty sure the "blue coat" employee standing by the jump yelled at him not to go off that jump and to slow down. There are a many other places on that mountain that you can jump and have fun and that is the ONLY section other than the bunny hill that is marked SLOW.

I am not sure that kid actually did a "jump". I think you have to get some air.

I think both parties acted poorly but the employee clearly escalated the situation by dropping the totally uncalled for f-bomb.

He may not have gotten air, but he came way to close to the Bluecoat. If I was standing there and someone came that close to me, I just might have taken him out with a forearm.(Then I'd probably get arrested for assault.) I don't like it when anybody gets that close. Even if he wasn't going fast.
Patrolman has to have more control over his actions.

While the patroller should not have lost his cool while taking to the kid he was just there to inforce the slow skiing aspect of a SLOW ZONE. It is not cool to buzz people just learning to ski on a green run.

Spend a while standing at a slow sign with an employee and it won't take long to learn to seperate the people that cause the problems. FWIW if the kid had hit somebody he can be charged with reckless skiing and that can be escalated to a felony.

There are other places on the mountain to ski fast.

What does not show in this video is that a skier had just come within a foot of being hit in the head as the boarder flew over him doing a 360. This was not the first time that day that this boarder had been called on his reckless behavior. Kudos to the Snowbasin employees for stopping these boarders. These boarders displayed reckless, irresponsible, and out-of-control behavior. Harassed? No. These young men are spoiled, not held accountable for their behavior and lack respect for rules. (Nice parenting job, Mom and Dad).
The boarders should have immediately had their passes revoked and escorted off the mountain. Snowbasin should fully back their employees as they challenge this reckless behavior. If not, they will be opening themselves up to The Mother Of All Lawsuits when (NOT if) someone is killed or seriously maimed on their mountain because the behavior of reckless boarders is allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged.

Last week at Powder Mountain we are in line for the lift at Hidden Lake Express. A snowboarder attempts to jump the slow sign but doesn't quite make it, and kind of bumps it, bends one of the supporting poles over. But the sign is still readable.

One of the employees in the shack sees it and I'm thinking he's going to make the kid walk back up there and fix the sign, but he comes over with a smile and says "I've got my eye on you"..... and the kid replies saying "I'll fix it on the next time down, I swear! ha ha"

Anyways, much difference in the attitudes between the two resorts.

At the risk of adding more fuel to the fire...

At my "local" ski area, they also let the ski racers fly down the runs as fast as they want and I've never seen any of them get a toungue lashing. I am talking really fast speeds, here to.

In the video, I heard the guy mention that the patrol never does anything about the ski racers. I sure can relate to that feeling. There is no way I would cut so close to someone to hit a "jump" like that, though...

A thought: now that video cameras are becoming more and more common on the slopes, will people modify their behavior knowing they might be getting recorded?

I can assure that Snowbasin ski patrol yells at and stops Snowbasin Ski Team racers. My son and nephew were on the team for three years and my daughter for one. I was at the early morning meeting every Saturday for three years where Troy the Director at the time would remind the kids to ski responsibly to keep good relations with Snowbasin. If the kids were even seen skiing out of control believe me we heard about it.
