Reports: Norm Chow to be named head coach at Hawaii

SALT LAKE CITY - Reports are indicating that Norm Chow is leaving the University of Utah to become the next head coach at the University of Hawaii.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser states that Hawaii administration "has authorized athletic director Jim Donovan to negotiate a contract to make Norm Chow the next Warrior football coach."

Depending on how the negotiations go, the official announcement should be coming within the next few days.

This will be Chow's first head coaching position. It is still unknown if he will take any of Utah's existing coaches with him to the islands.

Chow was brought in to help Utah transition into the Pac-12, but the Utes struggled offensively after starting quarterback Jordan Wynn was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The Utes rank 110th in the nation in total offense this season, only averaging 309 yards per game.

In 2010, the offensive coordinator duties were shared by running backs coach Dave Schramm and wide receivers coach Aaron Roderick. Whether the Utes choose to promote within, or look to someone on the outside, like former UNLV head coach Mike Sanford, Utah's offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, remains to be seen.

    Good for Norm.

I wish him the best of luck. He is a classy guy that did a great job of bailing Utah's butt out of the fire this year. Utah's season could have been a total disaster without some creative offensive scheming.

I would have loved to seen a chance for him to have one year under his system. he did a good job adjusting for depth and quality issues. No way the utes would have done this well in the pac12 without his help.

    so who now for OC.

Mike Stanford is unemployed.... I think he would of been given the Utah job if he hadn't already bolted for UNLV before it became available. And Whit has a habit of going after guys he has worked successfully with before.

I liked Stanford's play calling.... But Stanford's big value was he knew the Spread/Option offense so well..... but now there are a lot of guys that have it figured out. An defenses have recruited and adjusted to the spread so its not such a big deal anymore.

One good thing for Utah is yesterday was the beginning of an NCAA "Dead Period" until January 3rd, so they have a little time/room to maneuver.
